Public Inquiry on the proposed Magherafelt Bypass


A Public Inquiry on the proposed Magherafelt Bypass will be held in Magherafelt Council Offices, commencing on the 29th April 2009.

The A31 Magherafelt Bypass is a scheme included within the Regional Strategic Transport Network Transport Plan 2015 and the Investment Delivery Plan for Roads (2008).

The objectives of the scheme are -

To improve road safety

To relieve traffic congestion within Magherafelt

To improve the quality of life for residents

To reduce journey travel times along the A31 corridor

To minimise the impact on the natural and built environment


The proposed bypass is 5.9km of single carriageway and extends in an easterly direction around Magherafelt town from the A31 Moneymore Road at the junction with Coolshinney Road to the A6 Castledawson Roundabout.
