The importance of providing accurate and timely information to the travelling public is widely recognised in GB and mainland Europe, and has become an increasingly important function for the staff in TICC. Pre trip information can assist travellers decide on timing of a journey, which route to take, and what mode of transport to use.

Traffic Control on the Motorway Network

Roads Service commissioned the first motorway control system in 1995, co-inciding with the opening of M3 Lagan Bridge. The system cost approx £5.5million and was partly funded by the European Union.
