Operation of the Port Waste Reception Facilities Regulations 2003 at Strangford Harbour.
- Under the Merchant Shipping and Fishing Vessels (Port Waste Reception Facilities Regulations) 2003, harbour Authorities are required to consult those using the harbour, those using the waste reception facilities and others as deemed necessary. Consultation has taken place with harbour users and in this process, Roads Service has sought the advice of the Marine and Coastguard Agency (MCA).
- Under Marine Guidance Note 259, vessels that use a harbour must provide notification to the harbour Authority prior to entering port, must deliver waste to port reception facilities and must pay a mandatory fee towards the cost of provision of the reception facilites. The MCA may exempt ships engaged in scheduled traffic with frequent and regular port calls. The effect of this is that any vessel with a carrying capacity of more than 12 passengers must contact the Harbour Master at Strangford Ferry Terminal (telephone number 028 4488 1637).
