Street Works - Policy Proposals for Amendments to LegislationAuthor: - Network Maintenance, Roads Service HQ Status: - CLOSED Publish Date: - 30 June 2005 In recent years the volume of traffic using the road network has increased, as has the number of works carried out by utility companies placing and maintaining their apparatus in the road. The Department recognises the frustration caused to motorists by these street works, and so new legislative measures are proposed to tackle the disruption and congestion. These policy proposals reflect many provisions recently enacted in England and Wales by the Traffic Management Act 2004. A report outlining the comments received and the Department's response to these, as well as consultees' comments in full can be accessed via the links below
It is now becoming more common for the private sector to be involved in the operation of the public road network. The Department has therefore developed additional proposals for inclusion in the proposed Street Works (Amendment)(NI) Order, to enable it to delegate some of its functions under street works legislation. A supplementary consultation on these proposed measures is being carried out to gain consultees' views. |
