Trainee Civil/Electrical Engineering Assistants

General

The Trainee Civil Engineering Assistant (TCEA) and Trainee Electrical Engineering Assistant (TEEA) posts in Roads Service are a developmental opportunity to enter into the world of Civil and Electrical Engineering. It is a career which will expand your practical and technical knowledge, develop your analytical and problem solving skills, and provide you with a useful recognised qualification. Trainee Civil/Electrical recruitment normally commences February/March of each year.

In Roads Service we can also provide you with a planned career structure and excellent opportunities for further self-development. You will work as part of a team of Professional and Technology staff and the work is varied and interesting.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • The preparation of detailed drawings for contracts, including the use of computer aided design packages.
  • Site supervision duties for the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges.
  • Design of street lighting installations and contract supervision.
  • Cable fault location and repair, site surveys and measurements.
  • The use of Information Technology on a day to day basis - spreadsheets, word processing packages and databases.

Entry Requirements - you must have:

  • Achieved grades A-C in 4 subjects at GCSE - 3 of the 4 subjects must include English Language, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry - or
  • Qualifications considered by Roads Service to be an equivalent or higher standard.

Education & Training

  • Trainees will be granted day release facilities and be required to study for the BTEC National Certificate in Civil/Electrical Engineering.
  • This should normally be achieved after a 2 year period of study.
  • Opportunities will be made available for trainees to attend work related seminars and technical training courses.
