General
A Graduate Trainee in Roads Service can expect to spend
periods in both the design office and on site, working on interesting and challenging projects in the
construction, management and maintenance of the road network in Northern Ireland. Graduates may also
have the opportunity to gain experience in the development and implementation of transportation measures.
Graduate Trainee recruitment normally commences February/March each year.
Main
Duties and Responsibilities
- Preliminary and detailed design of roads
related projects, which may include feasibility studies, preparation of drawings, specifications and
bills of quantities.
- Supervision and management of contract and direct labour works.
Entry Requirements - you must have:
- A minimum
of a second class honours degree in civil engineering - or
- Qualifications considered
by Roads Service to be an equivalent or higher level.
Education & Training
- As
a Graduate Trainee you will be required to study for the Chartered Professional Review (CPR). To achieve
these qualifications, Graduate Trainees will be assisted to undertake a structured programme of education,
training and work experience.
- You will enter into a formal Training Agreement approved
by the Institute of Civil Engineers.
- All trainees are given the opportunity to attend
courses, seminars etc. which enables the continuing professional development requirements of the scheme
to be fulfilled.
- There is also a wide range of standard and customised training
courses available for staff.
