Conditions of Service for Industrial staffAppointmentsFull-time temporary employment is offered for any period up to one year. Permanent employment may be offered on completion of the initial one year period subject to satisfactory performance and attendance and availability of work. Employment in excess of one year will be subject to the employee satisfying health requirements. PayAs an industrial employee you will be paid weekly with the option of your pay being lodged automatically to your bank or building society account or issued through a personal cheque. Annual LeaveThe annual leave allowance, in addition to statutory holidays is 23½ days, rising to 25½ days after 5 years service. The annual leave year begins on 1 February and a facility exists where employees can carry up to 9 days leave into the next leave year. Statutory HolidaysIn addition to annual leave, employees are also entitled to 12 Statutory (Public) Holidays each year. Special LeaveYou may be entitled to special paid/unpaid leave depending on the circumstances, e.g. maternity/paternity leave, bereavement leave, leave for trade union activities, etc. Special leave may also be granted for domestic distress. Sick AbsenceRoads Service expects satisfactory attendance from all employees and absence due to sick is closely monitored and unsatisfactory attendance can result in dismissal. Subject to certain conditions, you may be entitled to full pay for a period of 6 months in any period of 12 months, followed by half pay for a further 6 months. This is subject to a maximum of 12 months paid sick absence in any period of 4 years. PensionTemporary employees may join the Civil Service partnership pension account. This is a stakeholder based money purchase pension arrangement. It is not compulsory to join. If this option is taken, the employer will pay an age-related contribution into the employees pension account with the stakeholder pension provider selected from a panel appointed by the Civil Service. It is not necessary to make en employee contribution but if the employee chooses to make a regular contribution from salary, the employer will make matching additional contributions of up to 3% of your pay. Alternatively the employee may wish to consider taking out an ordinary stakeholder pension in order to make financial provision for retirement. Standard Life is a designated stakeholder pension provider for the Northern Ireland Civil Service. It is not compulsory to contribute to a stakeholder pension, nor use the Civil Service designated provider, but if a designated provider is selected the facility is available to make contributions to Standard Life through payroll if the employee chooses. The employer will not make any contribution towards this pension. Travelling and Subsistence ExpensesIf you have to travel on official business you will be able to claim travelling expenses. When you use your own vehicle you may be paid a standard mileage which varies according to the cc of your car. |
